The Lure of the Lake District

Whether you’re looking for a secluded walk, an exhilarating boat ride down a beautiful lake, or a tour of your favourite poet’s home, the lure of the Lake District in the UK is beckoning to more and more travellers each year.  The diversity of the area is remarkable, the educational value for children is immense, and the stunning scenery and the serenity of the surroundings are hard to beat.  This year, why not heed the lure of the Lake District and embark on a holiday journey that you’ll not soon forget.
What to See
On arrival, you’ll immediately be surrounded by the graceful rolling hills, the majesty of the fells, and mystical lakes that have inspired writers in the UK for centuries.  You can get up close and personal with Mother Nature and all that she has to offer on the hiking and biking trails, and the spectacular views that you can enjoy from almost every location.  The Lake District is famous for its slate mines, abbey ruins, and the heritage and legacy of William Wordsworth one of the world’s most beloved poets.  There are sheep farms where you can spend a day learning to appreciate the hard work and effort that goes into maintaining this bit of UK history or you can wander amongst the cobbled streets to explore churches, art galleries, and museums that hold the keys to days gone by.  It’s always interesting to learn about your links to the past.

What to Do
It’s always wise to research an area before you visit so that you can see what is available to do once you arrive.  The Lake District offers a plethora of activities from which to choose.  You can participate in boating and water activities, take leisurely strolls through museums or gardens, and plan a picnic in an area that offers you views that are picturesque.  There are fine dining restaurants or small towns that offer you unique cuisine and personality.  From enchanting castles to the Rookin House Equestrian and Activity Centre, you’ll find something for everyone.
Plan Ahead
If possible, ascertain the type of weather that you’ll be experiencing once you arrive in the Lake District area.  Remember that weather in the UK can change abruptly so dressing in layers is recommended as is carrying an umbrella or packing a poncho for rainstorms that can develop in an instant.  It’s important to take along comfortable shoes, waterproof clothing if you’re going to engage in water activities, and hiking boots if you plan to take advantage of the wonderful trails that meander throughout the area.  Make sure that your stay in one of the many Lake District cottages is planned well in advance. The lure of the Lake District may be beckoning you to explore your heritage on your next holiday and learn a little more about the legacy of the area.

Plan ahead, make your preparations, and enjoy the holiday of a lifetime.
