New Reality-Flipping Photos by Erik Johansson

Photographer and artist Erik Johansson has always been a cut above the rest. The Berlin-based creative is a master at photo manipulation, where he takes photos of everyday life and retouches them to make them appear not of this world. As he states, "I don’t capture moments, I capture ideas. To me photography is just a way to collect material to realize the ideas in my mind."
Throughout the years we've seen his client list grow to include such tech heavyweights as Google, Adobe and Microsoft but it's always been his personal work that has had us coming back for more. The self-taught artist is meticulous when it comes to assembling his shots. He never uses stock photography because, as he states, "I always want to be in complete control of my photos and feel like I’ve done everything myself. It limits me in a way that I can’t realize all ideas I have, but limitations are good sometimes to define the work. A similar light and perspective is extremely important to create a realistic result when combining the photos."
Here are some fantastic works that Johansson has created throughout the past few years. Notice how he almost always incorporates elements of nature such as water, snow or land.....

Credit Card-Sized Tools Perfect for the Handyman's Wallet

"Sometimes the best tool for the job is the one within reach," explains George Laituri, father of the two designers who have created a set of clever, useful, and compact tools. Brother Dave and Calvin Laituri have launched an already successful Kickstarter campaign to fund Tul.
Created out of laser cut metal, each Tul is extremely durable and the size of a standard credit card - the perfect fit for a handyman's wallet. There are four different iterations, each with a specific purpose to fulfill. Lucy is a nut gauge and tightener, which comes in handy when you're missing a specific wrench. Opie is a bottle opener, Stan is an iPhone mount and headphone holder, and Roul is a multipurpose ruler and drill guide. Check out the video below to see each Tul in action.....

Overlaps Reveal Similarities Between Fathers and Sons

UK-based photographer Craig Gibson captures the uncanny physical resemblances between fathers and sons by overlapping portraits of the pairs in his aptly titled series Boys And Their Fathers. The collection of images, which Gibson so kindly referred us to, present a look at the genetic bond that these men and their boys share. He displays each individual's image separately, accompanied by a merged portrait that is especially revealing of their facial likenesses.
While the portraits, side by side, are clearly of two different individuals, there are undeniable similarities that sync up when they are layered atop one another. They appear to have far more physical attributes in common than one would notice by simply looking at them next to each other. Of course, Gibson takes dozens of images of each subject to pair the right angles and positions together, but it is an eye-opening look at hereditary parallels, nonetheless.....

Intimate, Voyeuristic Photos of People Sleeping

Just how much do we move around when we sleep? What exactly does it look like? Is it chaotic and crazy or fantastically fluid? The late photographer Ted Spagna devoted his life to photographing humans sleeping in order to investigate the relationship between art and science and to satisfy his own curiosity about sleep behavior. According to his website, "What compelled him the most was his endless curiosity about the unknowable sleeping psyche and the desire to inspire exploration, discovery and learning." Interestingly, Spagna's photos helped scientists to observe that we have 90-minute sleep-dream cycles. Through his work, we learned that sleepers become inactive while sleeping.....
